From 2006-2010 VH1 aired an absolutely insane series of celebrity The Bachelor & Bachelorette knock-off dating shows with an even more insane number of spin-offs featuring former cast members who failed at love to compete for cash instead.
These shows were created by Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin and produced by 51 Minds, which is now part of the Endemol Shine Group.
What makes these shows interesting (and vaguely marketing-related) is that this all happened right before Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat & Instagram took over from Myspace and people were not able to grow their following as easily. Reality stars today can basically do one season of the Bachelor or Married at First Sight and build up enough of a following that they can live off Instagram endorsements for the rest of their lives.
Not only that, but these shows also allowed VH1 to go from celebrity shows to cheaper shows with their own rogues’ gallery of their own reality stars to create what might be the most bizarre collection of intertwining reality shows ever made.
Most of these shows were on Amazon Prime when I started writing this, but several have since been removed which disrupted my binge. I’ll keep this list as spoiler-free as possible, but keep in mind that the runners up for the first few shows got their own “Bachelorette” spin-offs, which spoils the last episodes of Flavor of Love & Rock of Love seasons.
The main reason why I created this article is that it’s incredibly difficult to know which order you’re meant to watch all of them in. As I watched these, I kept accidentally starting a few shows out of order and hitting spoilers for seasons I hadn’t watched or finished yet, particularly when it came to check out the I Love Money shows which featured people from all previous shows.
Hopefully, this guide is helpful to someone out there trying to find the right order to watch these old VH1 dating shows and our typical marketing readers can just skip this.

Prequels to Flavor of Love (Optional Viewing)
Whilst this article is mostly about the shows that stemmed from Flavor of Love starring Flavor Flav, this show itself spun off from two previous VH1 series. I don’t think these are an essential starting point, but might be fun to go back to later once you start getting Flav withdrawals.
The Surreal Life Season 3 – September 5, 2004
VH1 ran 6 seasons of this celebrity “The Real Life” knockoff. This series led to a few spinoffs of its own, but only Strange Love is relevant to this. Season 3 introduced our man Flavor Flav to Brigitte Nielsen who started dating.
Strange Love – January 9, 2005
A reality show reuniting Brigitte Nielsen with Flavor Flav and mostly shows them fighting and yelling at each other. As you can probably guess by the 3 seasons of Flavor of Love which followed, things didn’t work out between them.
Where to watch it: Tubi TV.

Flavor of Love Season 1 – January 1, 2006 – 11 Episodes
Here’s the real start of it all. Flavor Flav gets 20 women to compete for his affection and to hopefully receive a gold chain to wear featuring a clock with their face on it at each episode’s elimination ceremony. He also gives each of them a nickname, which is how they are known for the duration of the series, plus all the spin-offs that they appear in. It includes a guest appearance by Brigette Nielsen. The series ends with a reunion episode which brings back all the women after the final episode has aired in front of a live studio audience, which gives them all a chance to brawl one last time.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
Flavor of Love Season 2 – August 6, 2006 – 12 Episodes
It’s pretty obvious that things didn’t last with the winner of season 1. This time Flav was more involved with choosing which girls would appear on the show to help weed out the gold diggers. This series follows the same formula as the first season and brings back a familiar face from series 1. It also features someone pooping on the floor after elimination, and wasn’t even someone leaving the house!
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
I Love New York Season 1 – January 8, 2007 – 12 Episodes
Unlucky in love with Flavor Flav, Tiffany Pollard ‘New York’ now has 20 men fighting for her attention. Her mother “Sister” Patterson who also appeared in Season 1 of Flavor of Love accompanies her through the series. The dynamic of having her very bossy mother on the show added a lot of drama to the show as she did not approve of many of the men.
Where to watch it: DVD – It is no longer on Amazon Prime.
Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School – April 15, 2007 – 11 Episodes
This features 6 women from Flavor of Love series 1 and 7 from series 2 competing for $50,000 and the title of “Charm School Queen”. Having behaved poorly in their original appearances, they are learning how to be more lady-like with help from comedian Mo’Nique, talent agency president Keith Lewis and magazine beauty director Mikki Taylor. When eliminated the ladies are “expelled” and have to return their pin.
Where to watch it: This used to be on Amazon Prime but is currently unavailable.
Rock of Love Season 1 – July 15 2007 – 13 Episodes
Bret Michaels from the rock band Poison is handing out backstage passes with their photos on them to a very different group of women who are competing to be Bret’s “Rock of Love”. Like Flavor of Love, this led to a series of spin-offs as well, including series that include a mix of past Flavor of Love & I Love New York alumni.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
I Love New York Season 2 – October 8 2007 – 13 Episodes
After a shocking season 1 reunion, New York is back and so is her mother. It’s more of the same, with New York and her mum being kind of horrible to the male contestants again. This series features several memorable men who appear in further spin-offs.
Where to watch it: DVD – It is no longer on Amazon Prime.
Rock of Love Season 2 – January 13 2008 – 14 Episodes
Again, things with the winner of season 1 did not work out and Bret Michaels is back with another 20 women including two that went on to get their own VH1 dating shows that are also in this list.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
Flavor of Love Season 3 – February 11, 2008 – 16 Episodes
More Flavor of Love.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
I Love Money Season 1 – July 6, 2008 – 14 Episodes
This is where the seasons really start to overlap, mixing members from the first two seasons of each show. It features them all living in a mansion like the other shows, but follows more of a Survivor format with them being divided into teams with members being eliminated in each episode. Rather than for love with a celebrity they are now competing for a chance to win $250,000.
- 2 women from Flavor of Love Season 1
- 2 women from Flavor of Love Season 2
- 6 men from I Love New York Season 1
- 2 men from I Love New York Season 2
- 3 women from Rock of Love Season 1
- 2 women from Rock of Love season 2
Where to watch it: This used to be on Amazon Prime but is currently unavailable.
New York Goes to Hollywood – August 4 2008 – 8 Episodes
This reality show features Tiffany Pollard or “New York” trying to get an acting job in Hollywood. It feels overly scripted and is a massive departure from the other competition shows. I wouldn’t really consider this essential watching, but the main highlight is seeing bits of the aftermath of her relationship with the winner of I Love New York season 2. This show did however pave the way for some of the future shows in this series.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Rock of Love Charm School October 12, 2008 – 12 Episodes
Also known as Sharon Osbourne’s Charm School in the UK, it follows the same formula as the previous charm school, this time with the women of Rock of Love. This time the stakes are raised with the prize money doubling on the previous season, now $100,000.
- 7 women from Rock of Love Season 1
- 7 women from Rock of Love season 2
Where to watch it: This used to be on Amazon Prime but is currently unavailable.
Real Chance of Love – October 20, 2008 – 14 Episodes
This features the two Givens brothers from I Love New York & I Love Money “Real” and “Chance”. They also have a rap group Stallionaires and are now dating 17 women between them. Early on they are split into two groups – those trying to date Chance and those trying to date Real. The elimination ceremony gives out chains to girls, they each want to remain, but Real and Chance can steal girls off each other if they want to get to know them better.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Rock of Love Season 3 (Rock of Love Bus) – January 4, 2009 – 13 Episodes
The third and final season of Rock of Love mixes up the formula slightly by having 20 women live in tour buses with Bret on a 12-city tour. This gave the contestants a better feel of life on the road with a touring musician, perhaps giving him a better chance to see if they can handle his lifestyle.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime & DVD.
I Love Money Season 2 – February 2, 2009 – 15 Episodes
19 contestants from the previous shows return for more physical and mental challenges and a chance to win $250,000. Craig “CJ” Jackson returns to host again. Two contestants from season 1 of I Love Money return. It is set in the same location in Mexico as the previous season.
The cast includes:
- 1 woman from Flavor of Love 1
- 2 women from Flavor of Love 2
- 3 women from Flavor of Love 3
- 4 men from I Love New York
- 5 men from I Love New York 2
- 1 woman from Rock of Love
- 1 woman from Rock of Love 2
- 2 woman from Real Chance of Love 1
Where to watch it: This used to be on Amazon Prime but is currently unavailable.
For the Love of Ray J – February 2, 2009 – 12 Episodes
Following in the footsteps of Flavor Flav and Bret Michaels, now it’s rapper Ray J’s turn to find love from 14 new contestants. I wasn’t familiar with Ray J before this, but he’s the guy from the Kim Kardashian sex tape, which is something that is openly discussed by the girls at the start of the series.
Compared to Flavor Flav’s girls, Ray J’s seem a little bit classier and better behaved. This makes them a little less memorable than the girls from his seasons. They are competing to receive a glass of champagne at their elimination.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Daisy Of Love – April 26 2009 – 12 Episodes
Rock of Love 2 runner-up (sorry for spoilers) Daisy de la Hoya now gets another chance at finding love with her own rock star boyfriend. This series features some of the most memorable men from any series. Unlike the other shows who are hosted by the star of the show, Daisy is accompanied by Riki Rachtman, a friend of Bret Michaels who hosted the Rock of Love reunions and Rock of Love: Charm School. This is definitely a must-watch season, even if you have no idea who Daisy is.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
New York Goes to Work – May 4, 2009 – 9 Episodes
This show is far more entertaining than Tiffany Pollard’s previous show. This show channels Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s The Simple Life, with New York having to try out different jobs each episode and getting assessed on whether or not she should win $10k for her efforts each episode. This also includes a former contestant from I Love New York.
Love or hate Tiffany Pollard, it’s a lot of fun seeing her struggle through some of the activities including the following:
- Pig Farmer
- Nudist Resort Employee
- Ghost Hunter
- Exotic Animal Trainer
- Doggie Day Care Worker
- Clown
- Fast Food Worker
- Professional Boxer
This show also includes two appearances from a former I Love New York contestant.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Charm School with Ricki Lake – May 11, 2009 – 11 Episodes
This was removed from Amazon Prime before I got to see it, but it sounds like it would be a great season as this time it will have women from two very different shows, rather than just different seasons of the same show. The prize money is $100,000 again this time.
- 6 women from Real Chance of Love
- 8 women from Rock of Love Bus
Where to watch it: This used to be on Amazon Prime but is currently unavailable.
Megan Wants a Millionaire – August 2, 2009 – 3 Episodes
Former contestant of Rock of Love, Megan Hauserman briefly had a series where she got to date men with a net worth of over $1 million. However, only 3 episodes aired due to contestant Ryan Jenkins murdering someone after the conclusion of the show. After he was accused he hung himself and died. This occurred during the airing of Megan Wants a Millionaire and it resulted in the series being cancelled, as well as the completely unaired series of Season 3 of I Love Money which also featured Jenkins.
Where to watch it: This show is not available to watch anywhere due to cancellation. This includes the 3 previously aired episodes.
Real Chance of Love Season 2 – August 3 2009 – 11 Episodes
More of Real and Chance.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
For the Love of Ray J Season 2 – November 2, 2009 – 14 Episodes
More Ray J.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Frank the Entertainer… in a Basement Affair January 3, 2010
Lovable hot-head Frank “The Entertainer” from I Love New York season 2, I Love Money 1&2 returns with his own dating show. A running joke is that he needs to win these shows to finally move out of his parents’ basement. He now gets X women to live at his parents’ house with him and his parents. I suspect this house is actually a set and not their real home as it looks different to the footage of him shown in previous shows. This series is actually great and a must-watch, despite none of his contestants appearing in future shows.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
I Love Money Season 3 (Cancelled) – Possibly January 2010
This show never aired and may have never been edited at all. This could have been the best season of all as it includes 5 very strong personalities from Daisy of Love, including a few very entertaining guys who did not last as long as I’d have liked in that series.
- 2 women from Flavor of Love 2
- 1 woman from Rock of Love
- 1 woman from Rock of Love Bus
- 2 men from I love New York 2
- 1 woman from Real Chance of Love
- 3 women from For The Love of Ray J
- 5 men from Daisy of Love
- 2 men from Megan Wants a Millionaire
Unfortunately, this show included the murderer from Megan’s series – Ryan Jenkins and was cancelled before airing. He was rumoured to be the winner of this series.
In 2020 a 27-minute YouTube video was released with a few former contestants explaining how the show went up to the moments they were eliminated.

Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It – October 18, 2010
Over the dating game, Bret Michaels now has a show with his family. This is still available on Amazon Prime but doesn’t really seem like necessary viewing. Hopefully, a few people from past shows make an appearance but this really feels like Bret trying to distance himself from those shows whilst still remaining in the spotlight.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime.
Rock of Love Girls: Where Are They Now – Unknown 2010
Not to be confused with dozens of articles and videos on the web, I found this TV special listed on IMDB but very little information is given about it. Only 4 women are credited as appearing on it. This will probably be hard for you to track down and is certainly not essential viewing.
I Love Money Season 4 – September 16, 2010
I never actually got watch this properly as it disappeared off Amazon Prime before I got to it. I did manage to find some of it on YouTube, however. It has some fun people in it, but without being able to watch the whole season in order, it was harder for me to appreciate.
- 3 women from Rock of Love Bus
- 3 men from Daisy of Love
- 1 woman from Real Chance of Love
- 4 women from Real Chance of Love 2
- 4 men from Megan Wants a Millionaire
- 2 men from I love New York 2
- 1 woman from For the Love of Ray J
Where to watch it: A few episodes are on YouTube – This is no longer on Amazon Prime.
Real and Chance: The Legend Hunters
For some weird reason, the final show in this series appears to involve Real and Chance and they’re just out talking to people about various legendary and mythical animals including Big Foot. This is an absolutely bizarre conclusion to this series. This is no longer on Amazon Prime so I haven’t seen all of it, but I think I saw the first episode and don’t recall it being too great.
VH1 Reality Show Contestant Guide
From what I could tell, there were 295 dating contestants between all of these shows and about a third of them went on to appear as contestants or stars of additional shows. Below is a list of who was on what. This will be handy if you only want to watch content with Frank the Entertainer or anything with Real and Chance in it, for example.
