When the original Space Jam film was released in late 1996, it was massive. As a kid in Australia at the time, it seemed like one of the biggest movie events I’d ever experienced, with fast food toys, Tazos, action figures, clothes, everything.
Now in 2021 the new film starring LeBron James has come out and looks to be attempting to cash in all over again with action figures and Happy Meal toys and clothing all over again.
I’ve done a few articles about Happy Meal toys in the past and I’m not actively collecting this series, but I was really impressed with the themed Happy Meal Box for this set.
The Space Jam A New Legacy Happy Meal box has a pop out basketball ring on the font, and each side has pop-out pieces that make little basketballs that you can flick into the ring. A very innovative play feature.
A lot of the time, Happy Meal boxes only have themed artwork on a few panels, but this wraps around 3 sides of the box and has pop-out elements. Good work McDonald’s!
Happy Meal Toy Checklist Space Jam A New Legacy
Here are the toys that were available at McDonald’s in Australia promoting Space Jam A New Legacy in August / September 2021.
Yosemite Sam
Yosemite Sam is sitting on a basketball and when you roll him across the ground he goes up and down, a bit like he’s riding a mechanical bull.
Bugs Bunny
Bugs Bunny, the star of the film can wiggle his ears as he passes the basketball between them.
Wile E. Coyote
Wile E. Coyote has his signature ACME corporation rocket, but pressing the switch on it fires him off instead of the rocket.
Taz the Tasmanian Devil
Taz the Tasmanian Devil looks a little disappointing initially, as the vortex from him spinning is the 3D part of the toy, whilst he is flat, but there’s a cool action feature where you can make the toy spin, then he collapses over the ball if you can throw it into the vortex.
Sylvester & Tweety
Sylvester can spin a basketball on his finger, with Tweety Bird stuck to it. This is quite fun.
The Road Runner
The Road Runner rolls along the ground with a wheel under it, which makes the foot dribble the ball really fast.
Lola Bunny
Lola Bunny has had a lot of memes and jokes online about her redesign. This figure uses her ears to hold a basketball to flick it.
Marvin the Martian
Marvin the Martian can shoot his basketball from his antigravity blaster, which is a great feature that works well with some of the other toys.
LeBron James
LeBron James Happy Meal Toy has a trigger on his back that allows him to pass the ball between his hands rapidly. This looks cool because both the ball and his arms move.
Basket Ball Ring
I’m not sure what this one does, I maybe the counter goes up each time you get the ball in? I don’t think most countries got this toy.
Elmer Fudd
Elmer Fudd’s hat flies off revealing his sweatband when you get the ball through the ring, which activates the trigger.
LeBron James Dunking Toy
Similarly to the Elmer Fudd toy, if you get the ball into the ring Lebron will flip over the top of the ring, making it look like a slam dunk.
Daffy Duck
Daffy Duck uses his big webbed feet to launch the basketball similar to other missile-based toys.
Bugs Bunny Rock
I can’t find any information on this toy, but I’m guessing the lid shuts when the ball goes in. I think Australia was one of the few places to get this.
